Notes |
- James and Mary Polly bought land in Monroe County, GA in 1824. Her brothers John and William also bought land in Monroe County in 1822 and 1823, per Richard Reid.
James will was written 12/21/1832, leaving all his possessions and property to his wife, Mary. On 07/01/1833, Monroe Co., court documents show that Mary Lowe and her son, Edmond, appeared and were appointed administrators of James Lowe's estate. Security was $7000.00 Alexander Rupell and Moses Shelby were witnesses. In the March 1834 term, Edmund made his return which was approved and admitted to record.
After several years of research by many people, James remains a shadowy figure. A severe handicap in searching for his records is the loss of the censuses of 1800 and 1810, burned by the British in the War of 1812. Despite the fact that he is mentioned several times in the records of Wilkinson County, GA, James does not appear in the census.
From Linda Aubrey:
A collection of Wilkinson County, GA historical papers was published in 1973 by Joseph T. Maddox of Irwinton, Georgia. Jesse Vaughn's will (1825) was included and among those listed as a benefactor was Polly Lowe, a daughter. James Lowe was listed as an executor.
In the same book was a roster of the militia in the country in 1812. There were ten names in Capt. Wright's District (353), including James Lo

2. July 1, 1833, Monroe County court records show that Mary Lowe and her son Edmund appeared and were appointed administrators of James Lowe's estate. Security was $7,000. Alexander Rupell and Moses Shelby were witnesses.
3. March 1834 Term Edmund made his return which was approved and admitted to record.
1830 census of Georgia was in Monroe County and had in his family members who fit the age and sex of Willis Lowe's boyhood family: 1 male 30-50 (James Lowe), 1 female 30-40 (Mary), 2 males 1-5 (jesse and John), 1 male 5-10 (Thomas), 1 male 10-115 (Willis), 1 male 15-20 (Edmund), 1 female 1-5 (Martha), 1 female 10-15 (Sarah).
