400 Neal was only 4 when his mom died.

At the age of 11, Neal oved to Missouri with his family.

Neal, along with his brother Clifford, owned and operated a gas station in Flint, Michigan, for 8 years. According to Clifford on 11/30/2002, the business was very successful. After they retired, they purchased a duplex together in Poplar Bluff, MO.Jamile talked 12/9/02 with Jason Banken, whose father owns the Hickory Log Restaurant in Dexter. He and his dad were kind enough to research the history of their restaurant and came up with the following info.

In 1950, Woody Gaines and Homer Dreadon built and ran a restaurant called Westside Cafe. They sold it to Neal Dennison in 1951. He sold it to someone else in 1952. That person sold it to Earl Webb in 1953 and Earl is the one who named it Hickory Log and added the BBQ ribs.

The restaurant we see in 2002 is in the same place as the original restaurant, except that it has been expanded a number of times. When Neal owned it, it would only seat 40 people and had a "lounge", which matches the description Jamile's dad gave her when he said Neal used to own a "bar" in Dexter.

According to Vicci Medler Sweeney, Neal was run over by a buggy as a child causing him to have a shake of some sort, and he was unable to have children because of the accident.

Although Neal lived in Poplar Bluff, MO, he died in the St. Francis Hospital in Memphis/Shelby County/TN.
DENNISON Neal D. (I1851)
